Orthodontist in Barberton, OH

Home » Orthodontist in Barberton, OH

Barberton families sit almost exactly between our two offices, which makes Dietrich Family Orthodontics an unusually convenient choice. Akron is about fifteen minutes north on Wooster Road, and Wadsworth is a similar run south on SR 21. Whichever fits your week, it is the same doctor and the same chart.

We provide metal braces, Invisalign® clear aligners, early treatment for children, teen and adult orthodontics, and retention. Dr. Todd Dietrich has been practicing in this corner of Summit County long enough that Magic City families now bring their grandchildren to the same office.

No referral is needed. Call and book, or send the request form, and we will get you in for a complimentary exam.

Orthodontic Care Barberton Patients Can Get Here

  • Braces. Fixed brackets remain the workhorse for bite correction and complex crowding, and they do not depend on a teenager remembering anything. See our treatment options.
  • Invisalign® aligners. A clear, removable route for suitable cases. Our Invisalign page explains which bites qualify and which do not.
  • Growth-guiding care for children. Expanders and space maintenance used at the right age can prevent extractions later. More on early orthodontic treatment.
  • Teens. Braces or aligners planned around Barberton High School schedules, with mouthguard advice for contact sports. See for teens.
  • Adults. Discreet options for crowding, spacing, and relapse. See for adults.
  • iTero® scanning. Digital records in minutes, no impression putty. Read about the iTero system.
  • Retainers and troubleshooting. Replacement retainers plus prompt emergency care for loose brackets and poking wires.

Two Offices, Both Close to Barberton

Our Akron location at 1690 W Exchange St is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, including a Tuesday evening block that runs until 6:00pm. Our Wadsworth location at 787 High St is open Mondays and Thursdays, with hours that vary by week.

Barberton patients often start at whichever office had the soonest consultation and then keep going wherever the drive is easier that season. Call Akron at (330) 864-2101 or Wadsworth at (330) 334-1698 and ask what is open.

Why Barberton Families Trust Us With Their Kids

  • You always see the orthodontist. Dr. Dietrich, DDS, checks every patient personally at every appointment.
  • Memberships you would want. American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Ohio Dental Association.
  • Budget honesty. The consultation ends with a total fee and a monthly figure, not a range. See financial information for how insurance and payment plans work here.
  • Local for sixty years. Since 1966 in the same community, with the reputation that only shows up after that long.
  • Nothing surprising about visit one. Our office visits page lays out each step, which takes the edge off for anxious children.
  • Sensible daily guidance. Practical food and hygiene coaching from our life with braces and brushing and flossing pages.

Barberton Area Communities We Serve

  • Downtown Barberton and the Lake Anna area
  • Norton and Clinton
  • Copley and Copley Township
  • New Franklin and Manchester
  • Green and southern Summit County
  • Doylestown and Rittman to the southwest

Students from Barberton City Schools, Norton City Schools, and Manchester Local Schools all end up in our chairs, and we do our best to keep appointments outside the testing windows their parents warn us about.

Questions Barberton Parents Ask

Which office should Barberton patients choose?

Either. Akron is the busier location with more available times; Wadsworth is quieter and runs Mondays and Thursdays. Your records follow you between the two.

How much does a consultation cost?

Nothing. The exam, the discussion, and the written treatment plan are complimentary whether or not you decide to start.

Will insurance cover my child?

Many plans include an orthodontic lifetime maximum. We verify your specific benefits, file the claim, and finance whatever is left over monthly.

At what age should we come in?

Seven is the age the American Association of Orthodontists recommends for a first look. If nothing needs doing, we simply watch as the adult teeth come in.

Can my teenager play football in braces?

Yes, with a proper orthodontic mouthguard. We will fit the guidance to the sport, and if the season is a concern we can time the start of treatment around it.

What if something breaks the day before a trip?

Call (330) 864-2101 and tell us the timeline. We keep room in the schedule for repairs and would rather fix a wire before you travel than have you deal with it away from home.

What Orthodontic Insurance Usually Covers

Orthodontic benefits work differently from the rest of a dental plan, which is where most confusion starts. The pattern we see with Barberton families:

  • A lifetime maximum, not an annual one. Plans commonly carry a single orthodontic allowance per person for life, often a percentage of the fee up to a fixed dollar cap.
  • An age limit on dependents. Many policies end orthodontic eligibility in the late teens, which is worth checking before you postpone treatment another two years.
  • Payment spread over the case. Insurers usually release benefits in installments as treatment progresses rather than in one payment at the start.
  • Retainers and replacements may or may not be included. We will tell you which side of that line your plan sits on.
  • Flexible spending and health savings accounts typically apply to orthodontic fees, which is a practical way to use pre-tax dollars.

We verify your specific plan, file the claims, and put the estimate in writing at the consultation. See financial information for how we structure the balance into monthly payments.

Braces and Barberton Sports

Football, wrestling, basketball, and soccer all coexist with orthodontic treatment; they just need an orthodontic mouthguard, which is designed to fit over brackets rather than directly against teeth. A standard boil-and-bite guard is the wrong tool and can pull brackets loose. For band and choir, expect a couple of weeks of adjustment on a wind instrument, particularly brass, and then a return to normal. If a state tournament or a season opener is on the calendar, tell us at the consultation and we will look at the timing of the placement appointment around it.

What Adjustment Visits Are Actually Like

The placement appointment is the long one. After that, most visits run fifteen to thirty minutes: we check movement, change wires or elastics, tighten what needs tightening, and answer questions. Parents of older children are welcome to wait in the car, and we will come out with the update rather than making you sit in a lobby.

Start With a Free Exam

Call (330) 864-2101 for Akron, (330) 334-1698 for Wadsworth, or request an appointment online. We treat patients from Barberton, Norton, Clinton, New Franklin, and the surrounding Ohio communities.

Here is the shape of a first appointment:

  1. A short intake conversation and dental history review
  2. An exam with iTero® digital scanning
  3. A recommendation, a timeline, and the numbers in writing

If the honest answer is that your child needs nothing yet, that is what you will hear. We would rather see you back in a year than start treatment early to fill a chair.

We've loved our experience at Dietrich Family Orthodontics. It's truly been remarkable to see the transformation in my daughter's teeth and her confidence. Once she's done I'll be bringing my son here if he also needs orthodontic treatment. The staff is wonderful and the office is run like a well oiled machine. I can't recommend them enough!
Jack S.
My teenage son has been getting braces treatment here for over a year, and I appreciate how respectful the staff stays even when he’s being moody after school. They somehow keep things professional while still making younger patients feel comfortable. One wire snapped while we were out of town, and they gave helpful temporary advice over the phone until we returned. That level of responsiveness honestly made a stressful situation much easier for us.
Deborah F.
I am an adult patient of Dr Dietrich. Dr D and his entire staff have made having orthodontia later in life a fun experience!
Reese R.
Dr. Dietrich was my orthodontist as a little girl and due to not wearing my retainers I’ve returned for Invisalign as an adult. He’s excellent at what he does, kind and professional. I highly recommend him.
